I’m stressed, you’re stressed, we’re stressed, everyone seems stressed.
We live in such a crazy culture where everyone walks fast, eats fast, and does not sleep much.
We are all in constant state of go go go with no relaxation or down time.
I’m a mother of three kids 5 and under. It’s a never ending job of cleaning, changing diapers, and washing dishes.
But one thing I have noticed is that if you are not managing your stress well– then you will not be well.
The question is – how do you manage your stress? What does that look like?
Ask yourself, “what is the first thing I reach for or do when I am stressed?”
Is it chocolate?
Beer or wine?
Junk food such as chips, Cheetos, or Doritos?
Or do you exercise?
Do some relaxing breaths or yoga?
Read and focus on some scripture verses or positive affirmations?
Call up a friend and vent?
Really, if we are honest with ourselves, it is a mixture of things. Usually, it is not just one thing that we reach for when the time gets tough.
I admit, sometimes all I want to make things better is a small square of 80% dark chocolate.
Or, sometimes, when the kids are screaming and fighting among themselves, I just want to escape with a beer or maybe go for a run.
It’s times like those that truly show what or who you turn to when things are just chaotic.
These are the decisions that will define your health for the long term.
Each small decision will either cause inflammation or disease, or will bring vitality and life.
When you are older will you have a walker or will you be active and nimble??
If you ask me, I want to be the active, not in pain, able to enjoy life and it’s great opportunities!
But how do we get there? How do we age gracefully?
Everyday – we must make the proper and most healthy decisions because each decision builds on itself.
If you consistently grab a beer to deal with the stress – then your future will probably entail a grand beer belly and liver cirrhosis.
If you consistently grab junk food – then weight gain will rear its head.
If you consistently grab a cigarette – then hacking and coughing and possibly cancer may likely be in your future.
What is your guilty daily escape?
How you deal with each stress in your life will define your future health and the health of your body.
What will it be for you?
No one is perfect, so give yourself grace, but be sure you are reaching for health more often then not when stress rears its ugly head.
Your body will thank you for it in the long run!!
